My First Experience of Competitive Sailing at Cowes Week 2011

August 18th, 2011

The butterflies in my tummy were really starting to flutter as I stepped off the Red Jet Hi-Speed Ferry as I arrived in Cowes. The Hi-Speed crossing was quite rough and we had certainly been hitting the water hard on our approach. I knew then that the Zircon and Spinnaker Yachts team would be in for a fast and furious day of sailing. » Read more: My First Experience of Competitive Sailing at Cowes Week 2011

Spinnaker Sailing – Caulkheads, Grockles & Oveners

October 4th, 2010

A Zircon Day Sailing to the Island of Wight

Slightly delayed, I requested: “permission to come aboard, skipper”, which was only too willingly granted by Master Mariner Jim MacGregor. I had missed my train but thanks to Jim’s local knowledge and quick thinking, I managed to be part of what turned out to be a wonderful day. A friendly welcome by the other Zircon team member and some quickly disseminated health and safety instructions ensured that I would not be knocked off my feet at the first moment of ‘tacking’. » Read more: Spinnaker Sailing – Caulkheads, Grockles & Oveners

Spinnaker Yachts Sailing Day … From a Psychological Viewpoint

May 21st, 2010

Having recently taken part in the successful sailing day organised by Zircon and Spinnaker Yachts I was struck by the insight into people that such a day can produce. It is recognised that placing someone in an ‘alien’ environment, such as a 41 foot yacht, out of their normal comfort zone, results in them having to focus almost exclusively on the task in hand. This takes up more cognitive resource and people tend to compensate for this by resorting to their ‘core’ behaviours, which is always worth exploring. » Read more: Spinnaker Yachts Sailing Day … From a Psychological Viewpoint

Zircon Spinnaker Sailing Day

May 14th, 2010

Yesterday Jason and Amanda were joined by 20 clients sailing in the Solent. We were joined by colleagues from Arup, Caterlink, Cognisco, Criterion Partnership, Hewitt, Atlan, T Systems, HSBC, Swansell, TLC and Illuminet. We sailed with Master Mariner Jim MacGregor, Ash, Alex and Pip in two 41 foot spinnaker yachts. We had a fabulous day with Spinnaker learning how to sail and race competitively. We learnt the basics of sailing in the morning and were then pitched together to compete in four races across the Solent. » Read more: Zircon Spinnaker Sailing Day
