My Business Psychology Intern Experience at Zircon

After finishing my MSc in Social and Organisational Psychology at the University of Exeter I started researching business psychology consultancies. As soon as I came across Zircon I was sure that this was the place that would give me, as a budding business psychologist, an invaluable experience. After having a telephone interview with Sarah Linton, this belief grew stronger and I was fortunate to be offered a two week internship.

When I arrived I was warmly greeted by a close knit and vibrant group of individuals. What I appreciated most was that from day one I was given responsibility and felt as though I was really contributing to their work. Indeed, in the two week period of working with Amanda and the team the most prominent feature has been the amount that I have learnt and done in such a short period. The tasks that I was given included designing and implementing research, designing interview questions, helping develop talent assessment products, assisting in the development of best practice guides, conducting SPSS based statistical research and much more.

It is difficult to pinpoint one project that has stood out as all of the work that I undertook has been interesting and given me an insight into business psychology practices. One aspect I would highlight though is the amount of creativity and investment involved in taking an idea from its starting point through to a polished end product. The whole process is second to none. I felt honoured to be part of this process and I hope that I repaid their faith in me with the work that I produced.

Overall, this has been an invaluable experience and I feel extremely privileged to have worked with such a talented group of individuals. As a result of the internship I was fortunate to be offered a position within the company and I am now their new trainee Business Psychologist. I would like to thank Amanda and the team for making me feel so welcome and I look forward to working with you all in the future!
