Heidrick & Struggles Secondment into Zircon

Having recently moved into the Leadership Consulting division of Heidrick & Struggles I was keen to learn as much as possible about the world of talent consulting, I was therefore delighted to have the opportunity to spend two weeks on secondment with Zircon. Amanda and the team have been terrific in giving me exposure to a range of projects and helping me broaden my understanding of this fascinating industry!

During my two weeks I have been involved in a variety of projects including:

    – Attending client stakeholder and critical incident interviews and helping design a tailored competency framework based on the data gathered
    – Researching and benchmarking other competency frameworks
    – Inputting on a client strategy document summarising key strategic drivers and recommended actions
    – Designing assessment day timetables
    – Creating a project plan for a team coaching and development program involving one to one sessions and team facilitation days
    – Redesigning the terminology for a Values exercise
    – Attending an assessment calibration meeting and recalibrating performance/potential matrices
    – Preparing and participating in a client presentation on psychometric tools
    – Learning about new psychometric tools
    – Reviewing online assessment exercises

It’s been an eye-opener in lots of different ways, not least as an insight into a different way of working – Amanda’s ‘eco-friendly’ office is refreshingly different from some corporate environments but highly professional and produces large amounts of quality work through Zircon’s wide network of colleagues across the country.

Working alongside Chartered Occupational Psychologists has made me appreciate the rigour with which talent interventions can be designed when underpinned by both psychological and commercial expertise. The team’s combination of these two elements and its dedication to clients is impressive.

Many thanks to Amanda, Melissa, Julie, Sally, Sarah, Jim and the rest of the team for giving me this great opportunity, it’s been fantastic.
