Zircon at the Blackberry Remote Employer Award Ceremony

After entering the Blackberry Remote Employer over two months ago, the award ceremony was finally here. We had already been shortlisted as a finalist, so we were all very excited about the possibility of Zircon winning our first national award.

I (Sarah Green) dragged Amanda away from her laptop as we took the train into London to meet Sarah L and Julie at a gorgeous, trendy wine bar called the Crusting Pipe in the old market in Convent Garden. We enjoyed live opera from a very vivacious young lady and also enjoyed Mozart played by a young string quartet. Needless to say that after an hour or so, relaxing to the sounds of Ave Maria and 40th Symphony, we had got into the spirit of an award ceremony soon to come.

After a short walk we arrived at the venue – The Grand Connaught rooms and were welcomed by our hosts, Paula Wynne and Ken Sheridan and were given ample opportunity for networking with such as Clare Young from the Apprentice and Karen Darby from Call Britannia.
The award ceremony began which followed with a welcome speech from one of our hosts Ken Richardson and then a key note speech by Mick Hegarty from BT.

We then were involved in panel interviews with last year’s winners: Nigel Le Page, Karen Reyburn and Polly Marsh. They were all very positive about the effects the awards have had for them during 2009.
The award presentations begun, and by this point we were all bursting with excitement and Amanda’s heart began racing. We waited for four lucky winners of other awards to be presented and then it was our turn. They read out the award for third place, and second place and we thought..”Could it be Amanda????”

The moment was upon us and as Ella Cockerell from Blackberry was opening the envelope we were all holding our breath! “The Winner of the Blackberry Remote Employer Award of 2010 is………… Amanda Potter!” Amanda then jumped up with glee and went to the front to accept her award and have her photographs taken with Ella Cockerell and Paul Wynne, from the Remote Worker Awards. I am sure Amanda will remember this moment always. It was so brilliant, and me, Sarah and Julie were so happy and proud that Amanda had been given this prestigious award.

After the closing speech by Ken Sheridan we enjoyed a finger buffet at the venue and then went on to celebrate Amanda’s, and Zircons success at winning the Remote Employer Award of 2010! We are all so proud that Amanda has been given the recognition she deserves for all her hard work by making Zircon such a brilliant, stable company that epitomises the model of remote working.
